PDF to audio converter
Upload a PDF and listen to it read aloud in a natural voice, or download the whole thing as one MP3.
- Reads the text layer of any PDF, page by page
- Skips page numbers and the headers repeated on every page
- One MP3 for the whole document, ready for your phone
How to turn a PDF into audio
- Choose the PDF. Drag it onto the box above or tap to pick it from your phone or computer.
- Check the length. You'll see how many characters it has and roughly how long the audio will be.
- Pick a voice and press Read it aloud. The first sentences play within seconds while the rest is converted.
- Listen or download. Follow the highlighted text as it plays, or save the MP3 once it's done.
Why not just copy and paste the text?
Copying text out of a PDF drags in everything on the page: page numbers, the chapter title printed at the top of every page, hyphenated words split across lines. A text-to-speech voice reads all of it. The converter rejoins broken lines and words and drops the lines that repeat on most pages, so what you hear is the actual text.
Good uses for PDF audio
- Lecture notes and readings you want to get through on the commute
- Reports and papers you'd rather listen to while walking
- Proofreading your own writing: hearing it read aloud catches mistakes your eyes skip
Preguntas
Is the PDF to audio converter free?
Yes. Guests can convert up to 3,000 characters a day without an account (about three minutes of audio). A free account raises that to 10,000 characters a day and keeps your audio in a library.
How long can my PDF be?
On the free plans one conversion can be up to 3,000 characters as a guest or 10,000 with a free account. Pro converts up to 300,000 characters at a time, which covers most books.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Not yet. The converter reads the text layer that most PDFs have. A scanned page is a picture of text, so it has nothing to read; we tell you when that happens.
Is my PDF uploaded?
The PDF is opened in your browser and only its text is sent when you press Read it aloud. The file itself never leaves your device.
Which languages can it read?
16 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Arabic, each with several voices you can preview before converting.
