Questions
Is Chinese text to speech free?
Yes. Guests get 3,000 characters a day and a free account gets 10,000 plus the HD voices. 3,000 Chinese characters is about ten minutes of speech.
Which Chinese voices are there?
Mandarin from mainland China (Mei, Xue, Hao, Lei, Bo, Tao), Taiwanese Mandarin (Yi-Ting, Shu-Fen, Chih-Hao), Cantonese (Ka-Yan, Wing-Yee, Ka-Ho) and six HD Mandarin voices with a free account.
Can it read pinyin?
Use characters. Pinyin without characters is read letter by letter or like English.
Does it get tones right?
Tones and common polyphonic characters are handled well. If a character with several readings is read wrong, try a different word for it.
